Javan MacAjudo Challenges Slay queens through his Song “Olwenda” to be Real
Javan MacAjudo, whose
real name is Javan Onyango Otieno, is one of Ohangla's musicians. He plays
well-organized ohangla music with soothing rhythms with educational messages.
If you listen to his songs, you can tell the difference between his songs and
other ohangla's songs.
In one of his songs,
"Olwenda," he challenges "slay queens" or ladies who fake
life to be real. The song is named “Olwenda," which means cockroach, which
depicts the play-acting behaviors of slay queens. In the song, he questions why
ladies pretend they cannot kill cockroaches when they visit boyfriends.

Javan wonders why these
ladies fear killing cockroaches, which lack blood, but they have aborted
several times. Moreover, when they come home upcountry to their fiancées or boyfriends,
these ladies cannot cook on a fireplace (usually a three-stone fireplace) or
jiko(stove) because they are babes. They demand their lovers to provide them
with cooking gas.
The jiko (stove) or fireplace smoke affects
their health. However, Javan wonders why whatever they are doing in town is
contrary to what they portray when they are in the upcountry (their fiancées or
boyfriends' place). In town, the slay queens smoke marijuana, which burns their
fingers and produces a lot of smoke.
Additionally, the time
slay queens take to smoke bhang is more than the time needed for preparing bread.
Again, these damsels cannot take black tea or drink porridge because they do
not use it when they are in town. Surprisingly, when they are in town, they
drink all sorts of strong alcohol. As a result, Javan appeals to these ladies
to change their mindset and be honest.
Javan also warns men
who want to marry to do their due diligence. He argues that some of these
ladies have weird behaviors and anti-development. Furthermore, they can make it
challenging for people (such as your mother) at home to deal with them because
their lifestyles do not fit in the rural setups.
Javan urges slay queens
to work hard and stop faking their lifestyles. They are faking lifestyles, but
they are living in people's houses. Moreover, the clothes they wear do not
belong to them. Hence, instead of living a fake life, they should put more
effort into acquiring their clothes and living in their houses, which is
possible if they change their mindsets.
