Political gods in Four Counties in Nyanza

During Azimio rallies
at Awendo (Sony stadium), Migori town(Posta ground), and Nyatike (Wath Onger)
on Thursday 30th June 2022, Hon. John Mbadi used a biblical analogy
to refer to political leaders who do not belong to the ODM party in four
counties in Nyanza (Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, and Migori). Hon. Mbadi compared
the Luo community to people who forgot so quickly, like the Israelites. God
freed from Egypt after many years of slavery but still made their own gods. He used Moses to refer to Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga has struggled for the
Luo community for many years to better their lives through his journey to State
House (presidency).
Now, when Rt. Hon.
Raila Odinga has support from other communities for the journey to Canaan
(State House); it is when some Luo leaders do not want to support him. Hon.
Mbadi compared these leaders with the gods Israelites made when Moses went to
receive the Ten Commandments from God at Mt. Sinai. He argued that Siaya,
Kisumu, Homa Bay, and Migori counties have their gods. He stressed that Migori County
has a golden god, which he was likely referring to, Hon. Okoth Obado.

Hon. Okoth Obado has been a political rebel after his 2017 reelection. In Homa Bay, Kisumu, and Siaya counties, Hon. Mbadi was probably referring to Hon. Evans Kidero, Hon. Jack Ranguma and Hon. Nicholas Gumbo, respectively. Hon. Okoth Obado has been working closely with Deputy President Dr. William Ruto. As a result, Deputy President Ruto appointed Hon. Okoth Obado to lead Kenya Kwanza campaigns in Migori, Homa Bay, Kisumu, Kisii, Nyamira, and Siaya counties.
Even though Hon. Obado
is leading Kenya Kwanza campaigns in Nyanza. In Migori, at one instance, he
stated that he is supporting Hon. John Dache Pesa for his bid for Migori
gubernatorial race. Hon. Dache Pesa is a member of DAP-K, a party in Azimio La
Umoja One-Kenya. In Homa Bay, Hon. Evans Kidero is vying for the gubernatorial
position as an independent candidate and supporting Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga
presidency bid. However, since he is competing with ODM's preferred candidate,
Hon. Gladys Wanga is labeled a political rebel (Homa Bay political god). Hon. Jack
Ranguma is vying for Kisumu gubernatorial race using MDG party. While in Siaya,
Hon. Nicholas Gumbo is seeking Siaya gubernatorial position through the UDM
party, competing with ODM candidate Aggrey James Orengo. Both Hon. Jack Ranguma
and Hon. Nicholas Gumbo are supporting Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga presidency.
Hon. Mbadi concluded his
speech by posing a question to the gathering. The question was seeking answers
to the number of elected leaders the ODM party will send to the national
assembly, senate, and county assembly. Hon. Mbadi asserted that even if the Luo
community will vote for Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga's presidency, they should also
vote for ODM members to make the Azimio government successful. Candidates vying
as independent and other parties will easily be persuaded to support the
opposition side. For this reason, the Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga needs elected ODM
members in his strongholds (Migori, Homa Bay, Kisumu, and Nyanza) for the
effective running of the government.
