Relationship between organizational culture and leadership

The organization is guided by leadership and organizational culture. Organizational culture describes rules, systems, attitudes, beliefs, and values that influence employees' behaviours in an organization (Chalmers & Brannan, 2023). On the other hand, leadership is the act of leading a group of individuals or an organization (Kruse, 2013). As a result, it is essential to determine the importance of organizational culture to organizational development and how leadership affects organizational culture.

Importance of Organizational Culture to Organizational Development

Organizational culture is essential to the success of any organization. For instance, it aligns with the objectives of the organization. In such circumstances, it supports the mission and visions of the organization, enabling it to achieve its long-term objectives (Chalmers & Brannan, 2023). This allows workers to work toward common objectives, resulting in synchronized efforts and productivity. Additionally, a positive organizational culture encourages job satisfaction and employee engagement. For example, valued workers continue working in the organization for long, decreasing turnover rates.

Furthermore, such employees are productive and contribute to the organization's success. Organizational culture also enhances adaptability and flexibility, which is important in navigating change meritoriously (Chalmers & Brannan, 2023). A solid organizational culture promotes effective communication within an organization, which reduces conflicts and misunderstandings. 

How Leadership Affects Organizational Culture

Leadership affects organizational culture in different ways. It plays a role in setting the values and vision of an organization. Leaders set what is considered important rights in the organization (Kruse, 2013). The values and vision they set become the cornerstone of organizational culture. Moreover, leaders engage in an organization's decision-making process, which influences the organization's culture. A holistic and collaborative decision-making process enhances a culture of empowerment and collaboration (Kruse, 2013). Furthermore, leaders who adopt effective communication engage workers in the change process and offer guidance during transitions, leading to a resilient and adaptable organizational culture.

Conclusion

Organizational culture contributes to an organization's development. Leadership influences organizational culture in various ways, as demonstrated above. Therefore, understanding the correlation between leadership and organizational culture is crucial in fostering practical values and objectives for an organization's growth.
