Warren Bennis once said, "The most dangerous leadership myth is that leaders are born-that there is a genetic factor to leadership. That's nonsense; in fact, the opposite is true. Leaders are made rather than born." With this in mind, are you someone who wants to acquire relevant skills to develop your community or self-development? You are not necessarily to be in political positions to change people's lives in your community. You can join the young people out there to develop different policies to change the status quo. If you are that person, the YALI program is the best program for you.

So, what is YALI? It is an abbreviation of Young African Leaders Initiative. The program was launched by the former president of the United States of America, Barrack Obama, to invest in future leaders in Africa. Based on statistics, about one out of three Africans is aged between ten and twenty-four years old. Furthermore, about 60% of the world population consists of youths (below thirty-five years old).

Individuals in this age bracket need a mentor who leads them in entrepreneurship and business, public management, and civic leadership. These needs in the young generation in Africa resulted in the concept of YALI. The program (YALI) comprises three models for recognizing and empowering these young leaders. The models encompass YALI Network, YALI Mandela Washington Fellowship, and YALI Regional Leadership Centers, situated in four African countries, namely Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, and Senegal.
