Climate change campaign
The focus is on the climate change, climate change is real threat to our development, health and prosperity of our future generation and if we don’t stand up and address the situation at the right moment it will push us to the wall. We have to act now; it is the right time for every young person anywhere in the world to come up with a model to combat this menace.
Climate is the common,
average weather conditions at a particular place over a long period of time,
for instance more than 30 years while weather is the day-to-day conditions of a
particular place. Climate controls what we eat, where we live and what we put
on. Therefore, this call all of us to
be concerned about our daily-to daily activities so that we do not create imbalances which
will hunt us in our presents and future generation. As Jeff Goodell put it,
“One of the big questions in the climate change debate: Are humans any smarter
than frogs in pot? If you put a frog in a pot and slowly turn up the heat, it
won’t jump out. Instead, it will enjoy the nice warm bath until it cooked to
death. We humans seem to be doing pretty much the same thing’’. Jeff was correct in his statement; human
beings are like frogs in a pot. We continue involving in our irresponsible
daily-to-daily activities which contribute to the climate change, eventually
contributing to global warming which will heat the earth and the end result, we
will be wiped out of the world.
When God created the
world we were given responsibility to protect the environment as noted in
Genesis: 1:28: “And God bless them; “Be
fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over
fish of the sea and over birds of the air and over every living thing that
moves on the earth”. The question is
why have we neglected our responsibilities to make our environment a better place
to be. Let us embrace habits which will save us for the adverse effects of
climate change. We are experiencing unpredictable weather patterns, droughts,
El Nino and why it is so? These are things we can prevent if we have proper
plans and change of our mindsets towards climate change. Why have we only put more
focus on fighting other vices but leaving out climate change? AS Geoff Mulgan
once said, “The biggest barrier to dealing with climate change is us: Our
attachment to habits that are hard to shift, and great ability to park or
ignore uncomfortable choices”. We will
move forward if only if we are ready to shake off these habits. “It’s the
little things citizens do. That will make a difference. My little thing is
planting trees”, as Wangari Maathai pointed out”. If majority of us start
planting trees, further more at the current market, trees plantation is a lucrative
business. If you invest in trees plantation and for period of around five or
more years you will reap abundant profit and in this way you will be conserving
the environment thus making it conducive place to be and this is the culture we
should adopt.
The problem of climate
change will be solved when ‘we’ solve one of the world problems, for instance:
water scarcity, energy shortages, global health and women’s empowerment as Ban
Ki-moon identified it, “ Saving our planet, lifting people out of poverty,
advance economic growth…… these are one and the same fight. We must connect the
dots between climate change, water scarcity, energy shortages, global health,
food security and women’s empowerment. Solutions to one problem must be
solution for all”.
So far we are in the
right track to solve this problem; young people and governments around the
world have come out of their comfort zones to practice activities that will
help out this by creating awareness and enforcing laws that forces companies/organizations
to install chimneys’ arrestors and use other ways to prevent the emission of
gases to the environment. This awareness have made it possible for a percentage of citizens to revert
to the use of environment friendly materials like biodegradable bags, use of clean
energy. It is our responsibilities; let’s not leverage this to the government
or scientists. It is us who will help in winning this fight. You will agree
with the statement of Mike Huckabee which states that, “The most important
thing about global warming is this: Whether humans are responsible for the bulk
of climate change is going to left to the scientists, but it’s all of our
responsibility to leave this planet in better shape for future generations than
we found it”. I will close this by calling every citizen to come up and help in
conserving our environment for better future.
